With my good mates Brendan and Master Nicholas, I went on a tramping trip. We stayed a couple of nights in the Sandy Bay hut, on the shore of Lake Waikareiti in the Hawke's Bay region of New Zealand.

Here's a shot of Lake Waikaremoana disappearing into the mist, taken before we arrived at the start of the trail.

24 more photos follow. I think I did an alright job of capturing the beauty of the great New Zealand outdoors. Oh yeah, the photos in which I (the bald guy) appear were taken by Brendan.Collapse )

Hi, I'm new...
I'm new to the community and well...photography itself. Right now, I have a simple Kodak digital camera I purchased at Walmart a few months ago. I took a few pictures of flowers while I was visiting the New Orleans' Botanical Gardens and it really got me interested in photography. Now, I'm just curious where to start. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for a good beginner's camera. I want to do still life and pictures of my family. I was told you get a Nikon d60 or higher. I'm not sure that is right and also I'm not sure which lens to get.

Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated. And if this isn't allowed in the comm, I apologize.

Selling: Kodak Z1085 IS Digital Camera
Hey everyone! I'm selling a Kodak Z1085 IS Digital Camera. The camera is in like-new condition, as I only bought it three months ago. The only reason I'm selling it is because I received another camera as a gift. This camera is a brand new model from Kodak, they just came out with it this past March. It is a great camera, and I'm sure that whoever buys it will be highly satisfied with it. The camera also takes HD quality videos, which is a trait that I've only seen in this new line of Kodak cameras.

I currently have an ebay auction up for the camera. If you're interested, please head on over and take a look.

Let me know if it isn't allowed in this comm and I'll delete it. Thanks!!!

Digital Camera Question
Hi Folks!

I am a long distance hiker and I have not really been happy with my cameras over the years. I used a 35mm Olympus Stylus for a while and then a couple of bulky digital cameras. What camera would y'all recommend? I have a few specific needs:

- Light weight, ideally something under 6 ounces
- Uses AA/AAA batteries, I can carry spares (I may not see an outlet for a while)
- Preferably water resistant or waterproof, or light enough that the weight of a waterproof case isn't as bad
- Over 3 megapixels

I'm open to older cameras, the most important thing is something light. If the only good options have a rechargeable battery, can I get spares and is the charger lightweight?

Thanks for your input!

Troubles with batteries on Kodak EasyShare
Hi there, I was recently given a Kodak EasyShare Z712 IS for Christmas. I admittedly know very little about photography and cameras in general. Before this, I had an "ancient" digital camera. Anyway, I've been playing with the Kodak, and I noticed it's battery life is incredibly short. The batteries I was using were not the lithium batteries, but the plain ol' Energizer AA's. I got a few shots (maybe 15?) and tried a few of the different features. The batteries then died.

I went online and realized that the EasyShare has poor ratings for battery life. But 15 shots?! I'll be taking a trip to Ireland very soon and I'm a little concerned that I'll be unable to take advantage of my camera because I'll be at the store buying AA's every ten minutes. What type of batteries do you suggest?

Also, are there certain settings that use less battery power than others? I think I'm going to use the viewfinder more often. But what about the manual setting? Will that use less power than "smart"mode?

PS- If this is not an acceptable post for this community, please let me know and I'll take it down ASAP.
